find joy in God’s Call
Sometimes we wonder if Moses didn’t like his own name. Did he ever wish to be anyone other than himself? Did he ever feel overwhelmed when God called him to go back to Egypt? His mission seemed so simple in the beginning—get the Israelites out of Egypt. But, that was millions of people—the same people who had very little memory of ever being free after hundreds of years as slaves. Did Moses feel begrudging in his obedience to God?
Looking at Moses, we have been sitting in wonder because he experienced such miraculous interactions with YHWH. I Am Who I Am. He was a leader and used by God to let His will be known and carried out in freeing the Israelites. We know the average person has not been near a burning bush nor lead millions sit in a different position in life. It’s easy to often be looking over what God has given you to steward or what calling He’s given you—and meet with doubt and struggle. If you are in a place of wrestling and your obedience is begrudging, you are not the first to walk that path. Countless friends wrestle with their lack of understanding despite their attempts to do so.
It’s easy to look at the calling the Lord has given you and wonder, “Am I good enough?” to do most of the plans ahead. Who are we that God could use. And yet, the Moses that lead the Israelites and closely interacted with God is also the Moses that murdered a man and fled from Egypt. It was never about Moses. It was about God—and His love for His people as He set them free. There is so much beauty in the fact that God chose a man with weaknesses and refined him anyways. The freedom you can experience in being called by God to steward something or follow His plans come when you shift your mindset. Being called by God and stepping into His plans for you is a beautiful thing, but remember that the pressure isn’t on you. You aren’t the Savior—you’re called to show people who the Savior is.
There is so much joy in knowing that God is leading you into something new when you release the burden that isn’t yours to carry. Let your fears melt away, Friend. We want to encourage you to continue to shift your focus—it’s not what you CAN do, but what you CAN’T—because that is exactly how God is glorified in every single story. Moses couldn’t—but God could. And all he had to do was stretch out his hand for miracles to impact millions of lives.
Where could you stretch out your hand today and move in faith toward what the Lord has called you to?
